Kei truck delivering flowers to the farmhouse
Twenty years ago I fell way down the rabbit hole of flowers when I was given a bouquet of black dahlias for my birthday. I had never received flowers before.
I arranged the flowers in a vase over and over again in awe of how elegant and special they made me feel. The next morning they were all wilted, but I distinctly remember not minding at all. They had accomplished so much the evening before, I was really changed.
A year later I would quit my day job and commit all of my time to building Saipua and learning everything I could about floriculture.
In years since we've flowered countless weddings, fashion shows and television production sets, built three Brooklyn studios and taught hundreds of other florists everything we know.
When the NYC flower market started shrinking in 2008 we set our sights on building our own flower farm where we could grow what I like to call my dream flowers - stems you'd never find elsewhere.
Since 2011, Worlds End Farm has provided our clients with flowers that resonate with the reverence we've developed for the practice of small-scale agriculture. Our farm campus has become the epicenter of my floral education practice, a place where I host students for one week at a time all summer to train them technically and help them hone their creativity. Worlds End also houses our ceramics studio where we design, build and fire vases and tableware for our personal use and for events.
It's not just our special attention to nuanced color or knack for asymmetrical grace - our flowers are beautiful in part because of all the embodied effort and daily joy experienced in the process of growing them. Then it all comes back home to our compost pile.
We are currently working exclusively in the Catskills and Hudson Valley so we can do what we love, cultivate and design with the flowers we grow here at Worlds End Farm.
